Creativity in Quarantine – Online Art Competition for Students Across India

Creativity in Quarantine – Online Art Competition for Students Across India During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, as schools shut down and children remained indoors, Yash Sewa Samiti (YSS) took an innovative step to keep young minds inspired and engaged. From 5th June to 8th June, we organized a Pan-India Online Art Competition, encouraging students to express their creativity from the safety of their homes. A Canvas of Hope and Imagination With the theme of hope, resilience, and positive expression, children from various age groups participated with enthusiasm. The competition received entries from across India, turning this virtual event into a celebration of unity, imagination, and youthful energy. Students submitted their artwork online—through email, WhatsApp, and social media. Each piece reflected the unique perspective of a child navigating an unusual and difficult time, and their art spoke volumes about courage, joy, and dreams. Celebrating Young Talent After a careful evaluation by a panel of judges, winners were selected based on creativity, message, and presentation. To appreciate and motivate these budding artists, digital gift vouchers and e-certificates were sent to the winners directly. This not only boosted their morale but also reinforced that talent and learning never stop, not even during a lockdown. A Message from YSS “In a time of fear and silence, children’s art spoke loudly and beautifully,” shared a volunteer.“We believe in nurturing expression, especially when the world needs it most.” Through art, we found a way to connect, express, and inspire—even during isolation. MH20 – Menstrual Hygiene Campaign by Yash Sewa Samiti May 2020

MH20 – Menstrual Hygiene Campaign by Yash Sewa Samiti On 12th May 2020, in the midst of the lockdown when access to basic sanitary products had become a challenge, Yash Sewa Samiti (YSS) launched the MH20 – Menstrual Hygiene Campaign online. The aim was simple yet vital – to ensure that adolescent girls and women, especially underprivileged students, did not suffer in silence due to the non-availability of sanitary pads during the pandemic. Reaching Those in Need With schools closed and supply chains disrupted, many girls were unable to get their monthly sanitary supplies. YSS stepped in to: Why MH20? Menstrual hygiene is not a privilege—it’s a basic necessity. Lack of access leads not only to health risks but also to loss of dignity and comfort for young girls and women. Support That Matters The campaign was powered by generous donors and volunteers who ensured timely procurement and distribution, despite the lockdown restrictions. Through MH20, YSS reaffirmed its commitment to women’s health, dignity, and equality—even in the most challenging of times. Because dignity doesn’t pause during a pandemic. #MH20 #MenstrualHygiene #WomenHealth #DignityForAll #YashSewaSamiti #PeriodPositivity #PandemicRelief #SpreadingSmiles 12 May, 2020

With gloves, brooms, and garbage bags, they took ownership of the community space, cleaning streets and public areas with pride. A Small Gesture of Honour After the drive, all participants were honoured and appreciated by the YSS team. The nationwide lockdown announced on March 22 left thousands of daily wage earners and domestic helps without work or income overnight. In response to this urgent humanitarian crisis, Yash Sewa Samiti stepped forward to support those who serve others quietly every day — our domestic helpers. Understanding the challenges faced by these hardworking individuals, we launched a Dry Ration Distribution Drive shortly after the lockdown began, ensuring that no home-maker is left hungry during this tough time.  What’s in the Kit? Each ration kit was thoughtfully curated to provide essential nutrition and support for families. The kits included: A total of 35 domestic workers and their families benefitted from this initiative, giving them not just supplies but hope and assurance that the community stands with them.  A Helping Hand During Uncertainty Many of the women shared how they were unable to visit their employers’ homes or earn wages during the lockdown. With no savings or backup, the ration kits came as a huge relief.“Ab kam se kam kitchen mein roti toh banegi,” said one tearful recipient.  A Heartfelt Thanks We thank our generous donors and volunteers who made this possible, even amidst restricted movement and safety concerns. By taking all precautions, our team ensured a safe and dignified distribution.
